Costa Brava, Spain. Planning a trip and need your advice
« en: 17 de Enero de 2011, 08:06:05 pm »
Hi! I am planning a spearfishing trip to Costa Brava, Spain. My buddy told that we must go for a spring season, when fish comes closer to the shore and water is starting to become warmer. One important thing is water temperature as we will dive in 5mm suits. We plan to go when water temperature at about 20 meters will be at least 17-18 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, we will be freezing during the aspettos in our 5mm suits :D

We will also have a boat there, but is only 2 or 6hp motor on it, so not designed for long distances :).

So bearing in mind the water temperature and that we will be spearfishing from shore, could you please suggest me the best spring month for this?

Thanx!

Thanks! But as we are already aiming for the spring season, which month to prefer? And which conditions should we expect there?

18-20.- C at 20 meters it's a mid-summer condition in Costa brava. Try to delay your trip till the end of spring. in which part of costa brava will you stay? it's not at all the same the north or the south.

good luck!

Thanks! Can I get some more insider information from you :D

What are the water temps at surface and depth in april and may? How good is the fishing season at these months? Can I contact you about details via PM?

The place is Cabo de Creus, Cala Joncols if to be more precise.

Regards!

at these months, surface temp it's usually about 15-17.-C. Some years maybe 18-19.- C as top.
spring it's a good season here but, like everywhere, you need to be in the right place at the right time...Some parts of CB are quite like deserts.

Any other suggestions?

It will be 100% spearfishing trip, 7 days of accommodation in tent on the shore :D

Any information is welcomed! It will be very pity sitting under the rain and looking to the cold stormy sea empty from fish :)

What about the license, it it absolutely necessary there?
Where I can find which places it is prohibited to fish, natural parks etc.? We will be staying in Cabo de Creus, Cala Joncols.

PS. And we are coming there from Estonia, Eastern Europe. Our main marine experience comes from multiple Norway spearfishing trips

Hello Hudja
Nice to help you..
First thing: I dont know if you know thet in Spain is forbidden to set a tent in all the coast excep in "official camping" and you must pay to have an space there. Dont put the tent directly on the beach or you pay a lot of money...

Ití‚´s better if you have a licence, but really I dont know which is the "status" for tourist..¿do you have a licence and medical assurance from your country?

Cabo de Creus I think all ití‚´s natual park...or may be a big part. Take care with scuba divers...They will call police if say you with the speargun

It will be very interesting if you could speak and show photos of your fishing trips in Norway...

Rascacio

Thank you! I did not know about the tent and the map I found does not have any "camping marks". There is only one hotel in this place and we want to stay nearby, but you think that it might be a problem, correct?

rash <marc> was very kind to sent me a map of this national park. In the place we are planning to go it is allowed to spearfish. Do I also need to be concerned about divers, in this case?

About the license, well we need to make 1 year insurance to get it and go to the doctor etc. It is a bit complicated for 7 day trip... So, it think we will just try to make silly faces if smth. happens :)

You can see some Norway photos here. Shortly, it is cold, 4-6C at spring and 9-10 at autumn and a lot of big/huge fish there :)

PS. Will it be comfortable with 100cm speargun ?

Traski.

Hi!!

In this link yo'll find a lot of info of Cap de Creus.

http://www20.gencat.cat/docs/parcsnaturals/Home/Cap%20de%20Creus/Visitans/Guia%20de%20visita/Opuscle%20Informatiu/43_106253.pdf

In page 4 there's a map, in dark blue zones you CAN'T spearfishing.

And you must camp in an official camp site (Camping, apartment, etc). In Cala Montjoi or Joncols yo'll find it.
